Summer time is rapidly approaching and the school sessions across the Long Beach community are close to completion. Start planning for summer with the two Long Beach City College Youth Sports Camps that will be offered through the months of June and July that include various activities that accommodate for children from the ages of 3-15.
Summer Swim Camp
The camp ranges from ages 5-13 that include various swimming activities for differing levels of experience. The camp is run by the LBCC Aquatics coaching staff that is comprised of gold medalist coach and 2016 Coach of the Year Chris Oeding. He is joined by 2015 Coach of the Year Dave Kasa. The swimming levels, ranging from 1-6, can be viewed below:
|LEVEL 1||Age 5 or successful completion of Preschool Aquatics|
|LEVEL 2||Enter unassisted, move 5 yards, bob 5 times and safely exit water, float on front and back with support (3 seconds)|
|LEVEL 3||Push off and swim using combined arm and leg action for 5 body lengths, float for 15 seconds and swim back|
|LEVEL 4||Jump into deep water, swim front crawl (15 yards), tread or float for 30 seconds, elementary backstroke back|
|LEVEL 5||Swim 25 yards (front crawl, elementary backstroke), swim 15 yards (breaststroke, back crawl)|
|LEVEL 6||Shallow angle dive, swim 50 yards (front crawl, elementary backstroke), swim 25 yards (breaststroke, back crawl)|

Viking Quest Sports Camp
The 2017 LBCC Summer Recreation "Viking Quest Sports Camp" is an all-day summer camp for children ages 5-13. This is a new program designed to offer parents a fun, active and engaging environment for their child to be involved daily in a multitude of sports and activities (playground games, indoor sports, Olympic sports, arts & crafts, dance, etc.). Daily activities will include use of the LBCC pool (not swim lessons, that is a separate sign-up) from 12:30-2:00.
This camp includes six sessions that begins June 19th. Registration is weekly and space is limited to 75 kids per week. To view the options and price, click here.
