Vikings Ready for 2017 Fall Season

The Long Beach City College Vikings finished the 2016-17 season with a bang and look to keep the momentum in 2017-18, beginning with the Fall sports. Long Beach made their mark in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) by earning an individual state championship, two state final appearances, four state meet appearances, five conference championships, four coach of the year awards, seven most valuable player awards, and four CCCAA academic awards.

After dominating the field in the 2016 season, the Vikings football team looks to repeat another winning season after bringing in a Southern California Football Association Central Division Co-Conference Championship after compiling a 9-2 record and 4-1 in conference. Long Beach will open up their 2017 season at Pasadena City College this upcoming Saturday, September 2. They will then face off the Saddleback College Gauchos for their home opener on Saturday, September 9. The remaining schedule can be viewed here.

The Vikings men's soccer team kicked off their 2017 season looking to earn another winning record in conference. Last year, the Vikings posted an overall record of 6-8-7 and 5-2-1 in conference. Long Beach opened the 2017 season with 3-1 victory over Victor Valley on Friday, August 25. They have their first home game on Friday, September 1 against Cuyamaca at 4:00 p.m. View the entire schedule here

Vikings women's volleyball is set to open their season on Friday, September 1 in the Long Beach City College Quad Tournament. With second-year head coach and former gold-medal Olympian, Misty May-Treanor, the Vikings put themselves back on the map last season with an impressive 16-5 overall record, which included reaching the second round of the CCCAA play-offs. Women's soccer returns after a solid 2016 season by earning themselves a spot in second place in the South Coast Conference. They posted an overall record of 10-6-5 that included a 4-2-2 record in conference. They kicked off their season with a 5-0 shutout against San Diego City College on Friday, August 25. Women's water polo is back in action after an unstoppable 2016 season. The Vikings debuted an undefeated conference record while reclaiming their second-consecutive conference crown. Head Coach Chris Oeding was recognized as the SCC-South Coach of the Year for the sixth time. Women's water polo is set to return back to the pool with their home opener against East Los Angeles College on September 13 at 3 p.m. View the entire schedule here.

Men's water polo completed yet another successful season in 2016 as they reached the CCCAA State Championship game for the second-consecutive year. The Vikings earned an overall record of 22-7 and 7-1 in conference. The men's water polo season opener is set for Wednesday, September 20 at 4:30 p.m. Click here to view the season schedule.

After making the CCCAA State Championships after a 10-year hiatus last year, the women's cross country team has already hit the ground running at the Oxnard Invitational on Friday, August 25. Last season, the men's cross country team had their highest finish at the Coach Downey XC Classic by placing fourth overall. The Vikings will lace up again at the Fresno Invitational on September 9.
