The men's basketball team participated in the West LA College Tournament this past week. The Vikings advanced to the final round, where they placed third overall in the tournament. In their first game of the tournament, the Vikings defeated Glendale College 72-64. Sophomore guard William English, from Millikan High School, led the team with 22 overall points and eight rebounds. Freshman guard Jamiu Akinbile, from Jordan High School, was a threat on defense with four steals.
In their second game on Saturday, the Vikings fell to West LA College in the championship semi-finals 84-80. English totaled 24 points for the game and had nine rebounds, while Akinbile had 14 points and five rebounds. Freshman guard Jeremiah Sadler led with five assists.
Long Beach finished the tournament in third place with a win over Santa Ana College. This was their second win against the Dons this season. Freshman forward Matthew Wooten brought in 22 points, with one being a three pointer and collected nine rebounds. Akinbile was relentless at the rim with 10 rebounds and was perfect on the free throw line going 6-6 in shots.
