The Long Beach City College men's volleyball team dropped a five-set match to Fullerton College, falling 3-2 on Friday night at the Hall of Champions.
Long Beach came out strong, taking the first two sets 25-15 and 25-23 to take early control of the match. Fullerton responded in the third, edging out a 25-23 win, then carried that momentum into the fourth with a 25-21 victory to force a decisive fifth set.
In the final set, the Hornets pulled away late to secure the match with a 15-10 win.
The Vikings were led by Ethan Hammond, who finished with 14 kills on .333 hitting. Noah Pannek added 11 kills and five blocks, while Ezekiel Sablan matched him with 11 kills. Manu Lill contributed six kills.
At setter, Ryder Tuaolo recorded 32 assists, while Xian Gonzalez added 14 assists in support.
Defensively, Sergio Garcia led the team with 11 digs, and Alden Jacobs added nine digs. At the net, Long Beach totaled 11 team blocks, with Pannek leading the effort.
The Vikings will return to the court at home against El Camino College, with first serve set for 6:00 p.m.
