Vikings Advance to SoCal Finals After Strong Showing at Prelims
The Vikings track and field team delivered a standout performance at the SoCal Prelims this past weekend at Saddleback College.
The Long Beach City College track and field team delivered a standout performance at the SoCal Prelims this past weekend at Saddleback College, with numerous athletes advancing to next weekend's Finals.
WOMEN'S RESULTS:
The Vikings showed strength across both track and field events. Lauren Ferguson represented in the javelin, while Saryah Harris-Davis competed in the shot put and Alaa Hassouneh threw in the discus. On the track, Nevaeh Lane doubled in the 100m and 200m while also anchoring the 4x100m relay alongside teammates Aniyah Johnson, Rylee Montez, and Naomi Coffee. Montez and Coffee also teamed up with Sa'Mir Braccey and Danika Hunter in the 4x400m relay, adding depth to the Vikings' sprint group.
MEN'S RESULTS:
The men's team saw strong performances as well. Riki Moscoso battled in the 5000m, while Gavin Wang competed in javelin and Jordan McGruder represented in the triple jump. Marques Guzman led the sprint group, racing in both the 100m and 200m and anchoring the 4x400m relay. He was joined by Malaki Alexander-Fonfara, Jahphet Welch, and Justin Auston, with Victor Manzano listed as the alternate.
"It was great to see most of our team advance to the Finals," said Director of Track and Field Operations and Head Coach Marcus Carroll. "I'm really excited for the relay teams that qualified. My message to the team was to stay engaged and focused with your team. You all are best friends this week as we work to make it on another week."
The Vikings will return to Saddleback College for the SoCal Finals on Saturday, May 10.
