Vikings Stage Sensational Softball Comeback to Triumph 10-9 Over Warriors

In a thrilling softball showdown, the Long Beach City College Vikings rallied back to clinch a jaw-dropping 10-9 victory over the El Camino College Warriors in an epic comeback. With this clutch win in the South Coast Conference, the Vikings maintain their flawless record, standing tall at 2-0 in conference play and boasting an impressive 8-4 overall record.
The Vikings faced an early setback when the Warriors stormed ahead with an impressive 8-run surge in the opening inning. However, pitcher Mariah Zapata (3-1) took charge, dominating the mound and allowing just one more run from the Warriors throughout the remaining six innings.
Refusing to back down, the Vikings mounted their offensive assault in the bottom of the first, chipping away at the deficit with three runs courtesy of Xiomei Geluz, Robin Garcia, and Anaya Togia, narrowing the gap to 8-3.
Despite the Warriors adding another run in the third inning, the Vikings fought back fiercely. Garcia's clutch RBI single brought Geluz home, closing the gap to 4-9.
With an electrifying surge in the seventh inning, the Vikings showcased their resilience. Geluz kicked off the rally with a powerful 2-RBI double, followed by another crucial RBI single from Garcia. Togia then reached base on a fielder's choice, bringing Geluz home and trimming the deficit to just one run.
In a moment of pure glory, right fielder Alynna Gonzalez stepped up to the plate and delivered a game-winning triple, driving in the final two Vikings and sealing the remarkable comeback victory with a thrilling walk-off finish, clinching the game 10-9.
"I am extremely proud of our team win today and extra proud of Mariah," said catcher Breanna Lucero. "She pitched an excellent game and was all in. I had no doubt in my mind that we had the dub."
The Vikings will hit the field once again on Monday, February 26, facing off against Santa Ana College at 2 p.m.
