Vikings Blank Southwestern Behind Haugo’s Dominance, 3-0
The softball team rode a dominant performance in the circle to defeat Southwestern College 3-0 Friday afternoon.
The Long Beach City College softball team rode a dominant performance in the circle and timely extra-base hitting to defeat Southwestern College 3-0 on Friday afternoon at the KLAC SB Complex.
Long Beach struck early in the first inning when Sienna Rievley led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice RBI from Riannah Maulupe to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.
The Vikings added to their lead in the third with two runs. After Natania Leomiti reached base, Riannah Maulupe delivered an RBI double to left center. Lela Asi followed with another RBI double, giving Long Beach a 3-0 advantage.
At the plate, the Vikings totaled eight hits, with Lela Asi leading the way with two doubles and an RBI. Zara Mineo also recorded two hits, including a double, while Riannah Maulupe drove in two runs and added a double of her own. Sienna Rievley set the tone early with her leadoff double and later scored.
In the circle, Ella Haugo was in complete control from start to finish. The right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out three and not issuing a walk. She faced just one batter over the minimum and kept Southwestern off balance all game.
Long Beach backed her up defensively with a clean game in the field and steady play throughout.
The Vikings will return to action on March 31 on the road against Antelope Valley College, with first pitch set for 1:30 p.m.
