Vikings Dominate in 18-0 Victory at Home

The Long Beach City College softball team delivered a dominant performance on both sides of the ball, shutting out their opponent 18-0 in a run-rule victory Wednesday afternoon at the KLAC Softball Complex.
The Vikings wasted no time taking control, scoring early and continuing to pile on throughout the game. Long Beach finished with 16 hits and 10 walks.
Leading the scoring charge was Zara Mineo, who went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, a triple, a walk, and two runs scored. Ali Calderon had a huge day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with four RBIs, while Michelle Cervantes added a double and three RBIs of her own.
Long Beach's depth showed up throughout the lineup. Madison Ramon and Ali Calderon each recorded triples, while Ella Haugo launched a home run and finished with three RBIs. Haugo also added a sacrifice fly.
Natania Leomiti reached base three times, scoring three runs and stealing two bases. Alesa Gonzalez added two hits and two stolen bases, while Jeneva Fletcher chipped in an RBI and scored a run. Madison Fao also drove in a run and scored twice.
On the bases, Long Beach totaled six stolen bases, including two from Leomiti and two from Gonzalez.
In the circle, the Vikings were just as dominant. Ella Haugo set the tone with three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out three. Adalise Valenzuela and Lauren Cervantes followed with two shutout innings to complete the combined two-hit performance.
Long Beach backed it up defensively with a clean game, holding Compton to just two hits and keeping them off the scoreboard.
The Vikings will return to action on April 9 on the road against Rio Hondo College, with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
