Asi Powers Vikings Past Cerritos, 9-1
Long Beach City College softball's dominant performance in the circle paved way for a 9-1 victory Thursday afternoon.
The Long Beach City College softball defeated Cerritos College 9-1 Thursday afternoon at the KLAC Softball Complex.
Long Beach struck early and continued to build throughout the game, finishing with 10 hits while capitalizing on scoring opportunities and putting consistent pressure on the Cerritos defense.
The Vikings were led by Lela Asi, who delivered a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three doubles and four RBIs. Mikaela Pacheco added a strong performance with a hit and two RBIs, while Zara Mineo contributed two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.
Riannah Maulupe added to the offensive effort with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Ella Haugo added a double and a run scored, and Haleigh Jacobs chipped in a hit and crossed the plate once, while Jeneva Fletcher came in and scored off a pinch run for Asi.
Long Beach did damage while having runners in scoring position, with contributions throughout the lineup to only leave four on base throughout the game.
In the circle, Ella Haugo tossed five strong innings while allowing one run on six hits and striking out nine.
Long Beach also applied pressure on the bases, with steals from Lela Asi and Madison Fao helping create additional scoring opportunities down the stretch.
The Vikings will return to action on April 17 on the road against L.A. Harbor College, with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
